DeMarco Murray latest back to think he’s awesome

Every wide receiver in the NFL thinks he is a #1, and every running back believes he can rush for 2000 yards. Such is the case with Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, who told a ESPN (via the Dallas Morning News) that he is very capable of doing something that only seven backs have done in the history of the game.
Of course, Murray was on First Take when he said this, and you are only allowed to speak on this show if you have something outrageous or in hyperbole. Murray said, “I think I’m capable of anything.”
Which would include finding himself on the bench because of injury.
Murray showed some flashes in his first year with the Cowboys, which included a freakish 253 yards on just 25 attempts in his first start. Problem for Murray is that he can’t keep himself on the field. He started only 7 games midseason, while missing the last three games. His second season he was named the starter from the outset, but only played in 10 games.
Besides injuries, there is a good chance that Cowboys offense strategy will keep him from historical numbers. This isn’t a team that likes to run the ball, and while Bill Callahan might be the play-caller, it is still Jason Garrett’s playbook and Tony Romo under center. The Cowboys are built to toss the pigskin around, and not be a ground-and-pound team. So for all Murray’s talents, he has two things going against him, already.
I’m just about tired of hearing athletes, specifically all these running backs, making declarations of what they can do on the football field, such as Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson claiming they can run for 2500 yards. While it may be boring, just tell whoever you are talking to that your plan is to do whatever it takes to get the job done and help your team win. If you do that in the process, good for you, and we will witness history. Otherwise, shut up.
