It was supposed to be a "statement game" that showed we're finally different, instead all we saw is how woefully inept this team's defense and defensive philosophy were again. It was a pathetic performance in almost every way and should probably end any real hope or enthusiasm that this team could make the postseason or make a run if they did somehow get there.
1) No more talk about "MVP" for #4. He pissed the bed yesterday in a game he absolutely couldn't afford to do it in. Prescott failed to throw for even 200 yards and had zero tds. He threw two terrible picks, both of which cost us points. Last week Denver faced a rookie QB making only his 4th or 5th start and Jaxson Dart threw for 280+ yards and 3 tds. The Giants don't have a very good OL and are missing BY FAR their best offensive player (WR Nabors) and still scored 32 pts, and would have won the game in Denver if not for two missed PATs. Prescott is what he is and it's way past time the franchise comes to grips with that. They absolutely have to prioritize finding their next franchise QB in one of these next two drafts.
2) Milton had a very small sample size but his one drive where he got to throw some he looked pretty solid. Great TD throw (not sure if Tolbert was definitely in, but it was a great throw regardless) and he looked pretty comfortable.
3) Not sure why Schottenheimer feels compelled to throw so quickly down inside the 1-2 yd line, but it's the 2nd time this yr where we came away without a TD because they just didn't want to hand off to JW, who is nearly automatic in short yardage plays and almost always falls forward. If it's a play Prescott is changing into then the HC needs to put a stop to it. If they think they arnt getting the push they need in those situation then stop with the tight formations. Line up in a single back or I formation with two or three WR's wplit out and make the other team cover the whole field. Teams do it to us all the time and this is something the Cowboys have done over and over for eons Using the tight short yardage formations)
4) The defensive is a complete abomination, I know we have some people injured and the overall talent isn't great or even good, but this defense is beyond horrible and IMO its largely due to an incompetent and stubborn defensive coordinator. He lined up in basically the same two or three base formations the entire game. Players were backed way up off the ball on most snaps, even down in the red zone. The run defense was a complete sieve. There was almost no blitzing at all. (I'm struggling to remember more than one or two TBH). Why is Mazi Smith still playing any? He was God awful again. Sam Williams did have one TFL on a run play but he is also awful at it overall, again. Murray was horrible yesterday. Why didn't Caelen Carson play CB or a least in the nickel/dime any? The defense as a whole literally made NO plays yesterday. Bridges caught an INT that about as poorly throws as a ball could be, the WR was wide open. He got credit for a pass defensed when Nix missed another wide open guy. 3 of the 4 TD passes were to guys with absolutely NOBODY near them, something that has happened over and over and over this year. This was probably one of the easiest wins offensively for Sean Payton in his career. Broncos had only two punts and only five drives where they didn't score (two of those were one play kneel downs at end of first half and end of game)
5) Jones said late last night he didn't think making a trade for one guy would do much to fix this, and he's right. It would take a slew of moves to make a dent into this shit for brains coached scheme. Instead what I would do if I were them is to start deep scouting other teams practice squads. There are some vets on those rosters and certainly some young players that have to be better than some of the slop we are trotting out there now. We almost assuredly have 4 or 5 guys on our active gameday roster right now that nobody else would even want. Replace them.
6) I would be shopping a few of our own guys and getting whatever they can for them. Draft picks would be preferred (even late picks) but if it were for another young position player then maybe look at that too. Jalen Tolbert seems like a guy who could at least fetch a late pick from a WR needy team. Not sure Mazi has any value but I'd gladly take a 7th for him. TJ Bass certainly has trade value. I'd dump Sam Williams if someone would take him. Maybe Schoonmaker has a late rd pick value for some team with TE injuries. They should not be holding onto these guys.
7) I think Schottenheimer has done a fairly decent job so far and most weeks he has called great games offensively. But punting on 4th and 5 from near the 45 yd line when you were down 30-17 and showing no ability to stop the other team was pretty dumb. Denver fair-caught the punt and promptly marched 84 yds in 12 plays to make it 37-17, and the game was definitely over at that point. It was a pussy call that showed you didn't have any real confidence in your offense (which is the bets part of the team). You pay the QB 60 mils per yr to make those plays, if you don't believe he can then you need to move on from said QB.
8) Two winnable games coming up, although Kyler Murray has never lost inside AT&T stadium and the Cards are another team kind of like Denver, we always seem to struggle with them. We've lost 7 of the last 8 to them and Prescott has only 1 win against them (2017). After that the schedule is brutal with a number of elite QB's to face. It may get super ugly.
I wanted us to win and really wanted to homer-out, but as usual it was not meant to be. This is clearly not a contending team and we are pretty close to just watching 2026 draft stuff at this point.
