Cowboys release Mana Silva to make room for punter

The Cowboys released safety Mana Silva on Thursday to make room for punter Brian Moorman. Silva made two tackles this season in limited time on defense, and he also had one special teams tackle. Silva played 12 plays on defense last week after Barry Church was injured.

The move likely signals the return of starter Gerald Sensabaugh, who missed last week's game with a calf injury. Sensabaugh said Wednesday he would play against the Bears. Church has been lost for the season with an Achilles tendon tear that required surgery.

Dallas signed Moorman to fill-in for Chris Jones this week. Jones injured a knee on a roughing penalty by Bucs linebacker Dekoda Watson. Moorman was released by the Bills this week after 11 seasons in Buffalo.

The Cowboys have a bye next week, so Jones could return for the Ravens game Oct. 14.
