Cowboys running back Lance Dunbar has a sprained ankle, Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News reports. Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said during his Thursday press conference that he didn’t know the results of an MRI Dunbar recently had.
“We’ll just wait and see what that MRI says,” Garrett said. “We don’t anticipate it being bad, but we want to make sure that we have all of the information.”
Dunbar, who was not at the Thursday morning walk-through, was having a good camp before he injured his ankle during Wednesday’s practice.
Garrett said Dunbar did not have any injuries entering training camp.
“I think the first thing you want to do is evaluate what Lance’s situation is and we’ll see what that MRI says and see what his situation is for practice today, over the weekend and over the coming weeks,” Garrett said. “We just want to make sure that we get the information right on his injury and make some decisions after that. Certainly you don’t want to overwork a guy in the absence of someone else.
“I think it gives the other guys more of an opportunity, the younger guys who will have a chance to play in the early preseason games, gives them a chance to get themselves that much more ready.”
