Cowboys DE David Irving hopeful he can return from strained groin in less than a week
By Brandon George

OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys defensive end David Irving isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason game against Miami because of a strained groin he suffered in Wednesday's practice.

Irving said Thursday night that he's hopeful he can return to practice in less than a week. He called his injury a "small groin strain" and felt like it wasn't serious.

But the Cowboys are often cautious with strained groins and hamstrings, so the injury could keep Irving out longer than he wants.

The Cowboys really like Irving's upside. He's 6-7 with a big wingspan and has flashed at times in training camp practices after moving from defensive tackle to end.
