Cowboys' Bryant says he is off punt return duty after recent struggles

After two consecutive games with mistakes as a punt returner, Cowboys’ receiver Dez Bryant said those duties will fall to others Sunday against Atlanta.

Asked today if he was still a punter returner, Bryant said: “I don’t think so. But I promise you, man, I’m going to get back in their ear. I’m going to get in their ear about that.”

Bryant, who has the team’s longest punt return of the season (44 yards), said he “wasn’t disappointed at all” when coaches told him they would continue to go with others in that role. Dwayne Harris and Cole Beasley replaced Bryant in that role last week against New York after Bryant fumbled a punt one week after being scolded by coaches for using poor judgment during a return against Carolina.

“I was very understanding,” Bryant said. “But like I said, I’m going to get back in coach’s ear. I think it will be hard for him to tell me ‘no.’ I’m going to continue to keep working at it. It’s not hard for me to catch a punt. I just need to feel it in and stop looking upfield and think before catching the rock. That should be my first objective, to catch the ball and then go make a play.”

Sorry to say this, but his lack of intelligence means he will never tap his full potential.

Can he read? The reason I ask is because it's his 3rd year and he still doesn't know the playbook and he and Romo still aren't on the same page.

I say cut his stupid ass and let him be the Bengals or Raiders problem until he drops out of the NFL and lands in jail.

Instead of cutting him, we could coach him?

Get better coaches.

Have you seen the tirades he dishes out to Jimmy Robinson? All that poor old man can do is sit there and take it.

He's not coachable. Everyone else knew that but Jerry Jones.

I have a hard time believing that. Hard to coach? Definitely. Not coachable? I don't belive that. If Parcells (or anyone)could find a way to coach Lawrence Taylor then anyone is coachable.

Parcells let LT run wild.

Dez isn't coachable. He's too stupid anyway.

Run Forrest, run!

Honestly, if Dez isn't bright enough to return punts, what the heck can he do?

If he can't figure out how to return a punt, how can he ever be trusted to run the right routes? And you might as well forget sight adjustments ... he just isn't reliable enough.
