IRVING — Cowboys starting outside linebacker Anthony Spencer was at practice and in uniform Friday at Valley Ranch, but he didn’t have his helmet. Spencer didn’t particpate with the first-team defense early in practice either.

Spencer has a strained right pectoral muscle, and the Cowboys are being extra cautious with his injury in an effort to avoid a setback. Spencer and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said they believe he will play Sunday at Baltimore, but how much he plays — if at all — will be determined over the next two days leading up to kickoff. Of course, Spencer said he expected to play in the game two weeks ago at Chicago and didn’t.

In Spencer’s place, Victor Butler and Alex Albright were splitting time at outside linebacker with the first-team in practice.

Also, starting right guard Mackenzy Bernadeau was splitting time with Derrick Dockery on Friday as the Cowboys’ first-team offense went against their first-team defense in practice. Bernadeau, who signed with the Cowboys as a free agent in the off-season, has struggled the first four games.

According to Pro Football Focus, Bernadeau grades out 68 of 71 offensive guards who have played at least 25 percent of their teams’ snaps. Remember: There are only 64 starting offensive guards in the NFL.

Veteran punter Brian Moorman (injured right groin) didn’t practice Friday for the Cowboys. Injured punter Chris Jones did punt once in front of the media Friday with his sprained left knee wrapped. At 12:30 p.m. today, the Cowboys are working out three free agent punters: Daniel Sepulveda, T.J. Conley and Chas Henry.

Starting cornerback Morris Claiborne was back at practice Friday after missing Thursday’s workout with an illness. Also, injured center Ryan Cook (strained left hamstring) was seen on the practice field Friday with a helmet.

I'd give Albright the lions share and only get Butler on the field in obvious passing situations.

Rob Ryan said yesterday that spencer has a 6 week injury and whenever he gets healthy he will play.

wtf.

Why doesnt this organization just say what the injuries are when they get the results?

I thought spencer had said he was playing on thursday and then for ryan to say that on friday makes me feel that we wont be seeing him for awhile.
