I was stoked after beating Philly back to back. Got the playoff monkey off our back....

Really thought we were going to do some damage in the post season. We seemed to be peaking at the right time.... Beat the Saints in their house... blanked Washington and Philly in back to back weeks.... won our first playoff game....

Thought we were a shoo in for the NFC Title Game, at least.

Then we got destroyed in Minnesota.

And we haven't been good since.

Remember when phags claimed Reid outsmarted us and lost that game on purpose so they could play us again the following week?

I never understood getting rid of Crayton. The guy was reportedly a hard worker who earned his way into the lineup, had good hands, could play the #2, was a decent return guy and Romo trusted him. And we kept Sam Hurd, OTree and Manuel Johnson instead. I understand he may have taken a liking to TO but we seem to undervalue those role players who will never be stars but are solid.

You can't pay a #3 like a #2.

We were playing each other the next week regardless. Only difference was, the winner of the week 17 game won the division and got to host the wild card game.

I think part of it was Craytons attitude. He was a guy who talked a lot and thought he was better than he was. Remember his "Well see them again in the Superbowl! If they get there!" comments after New England busted us up in 2007? There was also a lot of talk of him, Roy, and TO being pains in the ass to the coaching staff.

I think it highlights how little Garrett and the Jones boys understand about building a team. You can't have a team of superstars. Crayton was never a star but fulfilled a role. Parcells was great at identifying and using those gritty role players. Remember how much he agonized over the active 45?

Now the team will keep a guy like Andre Holmes around because he might be a star even though he fills no role week to week. I'm sure they kept Ogletree around for years simply due to their perceived upside

Not sure I get your point but there has to be a place on a team for a guy that can play multiple WR positions.

My point is that although technically he was a #2 WR for a couple of seasons, I don't think he was as good as a #2 should be. Was he a player that should get $3.3M a year. I'm not so sure.

And Midswat is correct. Crayton asked for a trade.

TO, RW and Crayton only played a short time together and no doubt TO was a bad influence on a young player. But I think on any team you're going to have some players with some amount of "attitude" but I don't recall Crayton being on TO's level. A real HC would have kept players like Crayton in line. It's too bad because we spent so many resources on WR's in a few years span between TO, RW and then Dez because RW was such a huge failure here.

Well we didn't have a real head coach at the time.

Also, the receivers coach kind of added fuel to the fire with his "Keep it real Thursdays." :jerkoff

He didn't light up the league in SD either. He was out in 2 seasons.

Because Romo made him.

Like Romo made Robinson.

And probably Romo would do well with Harris or Beasley, or whoever else we had as the #3 receiver.

Which kind of makes the drafting of Williams, especially after we took Pablo, all the more frustrating.

He had comparable stats to Alvin Harper when he was here and statistically was better than RW2. TO and Witten were going to be the #1 and #2 targets for Romo. Crayton was reliable and a good role player which included returning punts and filling in admirably when someone got injured. There has to be a spot and a role for those kind of players on any team.

He didn't light up the league in SD either. He was out in 2 seasons.

Nor did Harper when he left to Tampa Bay. Sometimes a player just fits better in your system.

The much more enjoyable win was the following week.

With this game, I was kind of indifferent because I knew we'd play them again the following week, and if we lost, then this victory would mean absolutely nothing. I was nervous as hell going into the playoff game because of Dallas' awful reputation in big games vs division rivals. (which hasn't changed sans this game)

Like Midswat, I really thought after beating the Eagles that we were going back to New Orleans for the NFCC, but it wasn't to be.

But that Philly game? Man, was I drunk as shit for that one. When Felix broke that 73 yarder to put the game away, I totally lost my shit and even sprained my ankle from jumping around so much. LOL

Since then? Nothing but absolute misery.
