Cowboys braced for quick turnaround
August, 27, 2012

IRVING, Texas – In 10 days the Cowboys will play the New York Giants in the regular-season opener at MetLife Stadium, and plenty of work remains to be done.
They close the preseason against Miami on Wednesday, will have to make the final cuts Thursday, hand them into the league Friday and begin on-field practice work on Saturday.
“The Giants’ game is happening pretty quick for us,” coach Jason Garrett said.
The Cowboys spent some time in Oxnard, Calif., working on the Giants game plan and the coaches have used some downtime to look at their NFC East rivals as well.
“We want to introduce them to the Giants plan without going too far into it,” Garrett said. “We don’t want the plan to be stale by the time we get into the regular rhythm of the practice week.”
Garrett said the final decisions on the 53-man roster will be made Thursday so Friday can be used by the coaches as their main game-planning day. The Cowboys will use Saturday as a regular “Wednesday” practice, but they will have to wait until the practice squad can be set at 11 a.m. before getting on the field.
“You have to understand the weekly clock and the weekly rhythm and we have to get our players focused on that,” Garrett said. “Once we’re done with the Miami game, we’re on to Giants week and it’ll be fast and furious.”
