Brian Moorman ready if Chris Jones isn't
October, 17, 2012
By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – Chris Jones did not suffer a setback with his knee injury with one punt Sunday at Baltimore, but he did not practice Wednesday.

The good news for the Cowboys was Brian Moorman was able to practice after missing the Ravens game with a groin injury and will be available Sunday at Carolina.

“I’m ready to go,” Moorman said. “I feel great. The leg feels great and so whatever they need I’m here for them, and hopefully I can help them out.”

Moorman suffered the injury a week ago, which forced Jones back a little sooner than expected from his knee injury on Sept. 23 vs. Tampa Bay. Jones’ one punt Sunday traveled 32 yards and was downed at the Baltimore 8. He also handled the holding duties for kicker Dan Bailey.

“We’re monitoring him day to day and making sure he’s doing OK,” coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s had no setbacks though.”

Brian Moorman returns to practice
October, 17, 2012
By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas - Punter Brian Moorman (groin) and outside linebacker Anthony Spencer (pectoral muscle strain) returned to practice Wednesday morning at Valley Ranch.

Chris Jones, who punted last week, wasn't at practice but was working in the weight room. Moorman is on the roster because Jones suffered a sprained knee in the Tampa Bay game two weeks ago. But Moorman suffered a groin injury in practice last week and Jones was healthy enough to return to the field.

Spencer has missed the last two games with a strained pectoral muscle.

While the rest of the team attended practice in full pads, Spencer wore only a helmet and shoulder pads. There are no guarantees Spencer will play this weekend at Carolina.

Sean Lissemore (ankle), Ryan Cook (hamstring) and DeMarco Murray (foot) did not attend practice and most likely won't play in Sunday's game against the Panthers.

Mike Jenkins (shoulder), Morris Claiborne (knee) and Matt Johnson (back/hamstring) were practicing. Jenkins and Claiborne were nicked up in the loss to the Ravens and underwent MRIs to determine the extent of their injuries. The MRIs revealed no damage, and Jenkins and Claiborne should play on Sunday.

Johnson, who hasn't played this season, could make his debut at Carolina on special teams.

Cowboys get a leg up with Brian Moorman
By David Moore / Reporter
5:20 pm on October 18, 2012

The Cowboys are about to enter their third game with two punters on the 53-man roster.

It’s become evident why.

Chris Jones is not healthy. The Cowboys hoped to rest Jones and his sprained knee against Baltimore, but he was forced to play because Brian Moorman was out with a groin injury.

Jones has not practiced since that game and it appears unlikely he will punt against Carolina. Moorman, meanwhile, has returned to practice and looks good.

“I’m ready to go,’’ Moorman said. “I feel great. The leg feels great. Whatever they need, I’m here for them.

“I don’t know what the plan is right now, but I’m just taking it day by day and am here to do what I need.’’

Moorman isn’t deluding himself. He knows once Jones is healthy, he’s gone.

“He (Jones) is going to be playing in this league a long time,’’ Moorman said. “I’m here to spell him and make sure he gets healthy and doesn’t have to come back too fast.

“I’m trying to make the most of my opportunity for as long as it lasts. I just want to help this team with field position and win ballgames.’’

Only team in the NFL that wastes a roster spot on an extra punter...

Truly pathetic
