Apparently he was told he didn’t win the back up job outright and he asked for his release.

Instead of trading him and getting something in return

This ended up not being true. Broaddus and another local blowhard were pushing that, but Archer and several other more reliable people said this was not true.

They did try to trade him and found no takers.

He would have been a nice add I think, but several teams ahead of us also claimed him.
