Former NFL coach Tony Dungy and Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips share a similar view on the exhibition schedule. Both believe the results are meaingless and the overriding goal is to prepare a team for the regular season.

Dungy served as head coach with Tampa Bay and Indianapolis for 13 seasons. In that time, his clubs were 22-33 in exhibitons and 139-69 in the regular season with 11 playoff appearances. That included a 2006 Super Bowl victory with Indianapolis.

``I would be concerned if things were not going well in practice, if players are not picking up things,'' Dungy said on Monday in a conference call with NBC's NFL announcers and analysts. ``I would not be overly concerned about the results of the game. I would be more concerned about how I feel it's coming along.
``I was more concerned in preseason about how we practiced and if there was a sharpness there. I felt that way about all the preseason games, other than the third game when your starters played a great deal.''
