A run of injuries at tight end has put the Cowboys in a bind entering Thursday night's game against Oakland.

Unless starter Jason Witten plays most of the evening _ and he won't _ offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will have to significantly alter an offense that relies on two and three tight end sets.

"Well, we have to manage the tight end situation,'' Garrett said. "We're going to try to do it a few different ways.

"You just have to use different personnel groups. You have to get the receivers out there playing and manage it that way. We've got to make due and figure it out.''

The Cowboys put a fullback next to Marion Barber and Felix Jones more in Tuesday's practice than they have at any other practice this training camp. More sets with three wide receivers and two backs is a way to manage the shortage at tight end. Fullbacks Deon Anderson and rookie free agent Chris Gronkowski should have a substantial work load.

More sets with four wide receivers can also help.

"It's all stuff we've done before in some way, shape or form and you have to be ready to do it,'' Garrett said. "It's all in the system, so to speak. We just have to manage different guys.

"We'll see how everyone handles it.''
