X's and O's aren't big concern for Dez Bryant

OXNARD, Calif. – Dez Bryant’s development hasn’t halted just because he’s been sidelined by a high ankle sprain.

Bryant still gets mental reps during practice, when he usually holds a play sheet and stays by receivers coach Ray Sherman's side. He still attends meetings. According to Sherman, the first-round pick has been attentive, giving the Cowboys hope that he’ll be sound in his assignments when he is able to get back on the field.

But some hiccups are expected for the megahyped rookie.

“It’s different from me telling him and hearing it from the quarterback in the huddle,” Sherman said. “Then you’ve got to go out there and do it. It may take a little time, but I think he’ll be OK.”

If Bryant’s recovery keeps progressing at this rate, he can smooth out some of the rough edges during the last one or two preseason games.
