Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is moving on to Phase 4 in his offseason campaign to convince NFL teams he is worth a high draft pick. After his orchestrated workout in San Diego, the Scouting Combine and Auburn's pro day, Newton now has scheduled private workouts with at least eight teams, according to NFL.com.

All eight of the teams — Carolina, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Tennessee, Washington, Minnesota and Miami — are in the top half of the first round. In a draft in which there is high demand for quarterbacks but offers little supply of franchise-type prospects, Newton seems likely to be snapped up in the top five picks.

NFL.com reported that the Panthers (first overall pick) and Bills (No. 3 overall) already have had private dinners with Newton and his representatives. Both teams are in the market for a quarterback.

The only other QB who is regarded as a surefire first-rounder is Missouri's Blaine Gabbert, who is also expected to be selected in the first 10 picks. The Cardinals, who pick fifth, are another team expected to pursue a QB this offseason.

Newton had mixed results in the first three phases of his offseason tour. After a strong workout in San Diego, he didn't throw well at the Combine but bounced back with an improved workout this week at Auburn's pro day.
