Dwight Freeney headed to Atlanta to sign with the Falcons
Posted by Darin Gantt on August 2, 2016, 4:24 PM EDT

The Falcons may have found the pass-rusher they’ve been looking for the last few years, even if he’s a few years from being himself.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, veteran Dwight Freeney is flying to Atlanta with plans to sign a one-year deal with the Falcons.

The Falcons have kept an eye on the 36-year-old outside linebacker, aware of their need for someone to pressure a quarterback.

Freeney hasn’t been a double-digit sack player since 2010, but he did have 8.0 last year for the Cardinals, a sign that there’s still something left in the tank.

And even if he isn’t able to produce as he once did, he’s at least a positive influence for Vic Beasley, last year’s first-round pick who has been moved from defensive end to linebacker as they try to tap into the potential he flashed at Clemson.
