Cowboys' defense continues to force turnovers

The Cowboys had as many takeaways in this game (three) as they did in four exhibitions before last season.
The takeaways came on interceptions by cornerbacks Cletis Gordon and Terence Newman and a recovered fumble by safety Barry Church after linebacker Bradie James stripped the ball from Darren Sproles. All the takeaways came with San Diego in Cowboys territory.
The Cowboys have seven takeaways in three exhibitions. A year ago, the Cowboys' limited number of preseason takeaways foreshadowed a regular season in which they tied for the fifth-lowest number of takeaways in the league with 21.
"We gave up seven points [in the first half], which is not like us, but we also created two turnovers," James said. "That's a positive and goes to show you that we have some work to do.'
