The Cowboys signed tight end Martin Rucker today and released quarterback Matt Nichols.

The Cowboys made a waiver claim on Rucker not too long ago, but he was awarded to Tampa Bay based on the Buccaneers’ record in 2009. Rucker, however, failed the Bucs’ physical because of a hamstring injury.

Rucker visited the team in Oxnard today but did not work out after undergoing a physical. The team is confident the injury is not that serious.

In the last week the Cowboys have signed two tight ends: DajLeon Farr and Jason Pociask – to help make up for the losses of John Phillips (knee), Scott Sicko (concussion) and the absence of Martellus Bennett with a sprained ankle.

Bennett is back to practice but only on a one-a-day schedule. He will play Saturday vs. San Diego. Sicko began running for the first time since the Aug. 8 Hall of Fame Game and could be back when the team returns from San Diego.

Nichols signed with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent from Eastern Washington. He played in both preseason games.

Suprising they released Nichols.

Why not just release that Farr, when all reports I've read state that he flat out sucks.

Him seemed to do okay in the last preseason game, he gets open, and he can catch the ball. Not much more you need from him other than blocking.
