** Players were in shoulder pads for the second straight practice. The Cowboys will have their final two-a-day on Thursday before a walkthrough on Friday.

** Linebacker Leon Williams did not practice because of cauliflower ear. He had to have the blood drained from his ear but he's not expected to miss much time at all. Wide receiver Kevin Ogletree missed his second straight practice with a hamstring injury but he should return to practice on Thursday.

** David Buehler was either perfect or missed one of his six field goal attempts. His 30 yarder was hooked left and after practice he said it would have depended on the official's take for it to be good or not. His tries were from 25, 30, 35, 39, 42 and 44 yards into a pretty good breeze.

** The special teams' focus was on kick coverage. The first-team kick team was: Alan Ball, Bryan McCann, Jason Williams, Victor Butler, Sam Hurd , Buehler, Danny McCray, Steve Octavien, Sean Lee, Cletis Gordon and Barry Church.

** After being held out of team drills on Tuesday, Alex Barron went through a full practice at right tackle and told the coaches he was ready to go for Saturday's game at Houston. Robert Brewster moved to the second-team left tackle spot.

** Most of the practice dealt with running plays against Houston's offense or defense. It gave Stephen McGee more snaps than he has received in the last few weeks as he impersonated Matt Schaub.

** Cornerback Orlando Scandrick had an interception on an out route to Terrell Hudgins. He made a clean break and catch on the ball, which showed he is gaining confidence in his surgically repaired left finger.

** Tony Romo had just three incomplete passes during the practice. He threw behind Jason Witten down the middle, had a spike to stop the clock, and missed Patrick Crayton in the slot in a two-minute drill. Another throw to Roy Williams that fell to the ground would have been negated by a pass interference penalty on Teddy Williams.

**Patrick Crayton continues to light it up from the slot. He caught a back shoulder from Romo just off Jamar Wall's ear. Williams ended the first-team's two-minute offense with a great grab of a Romo throw, while dragging his toes before going out of bounds.

** Tight end Martellus Bennett made a nice adjustment on a floater from Jon Kitna toward the sideline, adjusting his body to make the grab over McCray.

** A play later, Kitna missed Manny Johnson on a slant but Barry Church could not come up with the interception. It was one of at least four passes the defense failed to come up with the interception during the practice.

** McGee made sure he got the ball out of his hand when he ran the two-minute drill with the third team. Four of his first five throws went to running back Tashard Choice on checkdowns, five throws went to tight ends DajLeon Farr and Jason Pociask. Only two passes went to wide outs.

** Chris Harrison, host of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, was a practice visitor. He did not sign up any players for the next season's show as far as we know.
