"Good chance" Dwayne Jarrett doesn't make Panthers
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on August 5, 2010 5:51 PM ET
Dwayne Jarrett can't say the Panthers haven't given him chances.

The team has desperately wanted their 2007 second round pick at wideout to round into shape, but they may finally be running out of patience. Despite running as a starter early in training camp, ESPN's Pat Yasinskas writes there is a "good chance [Jarrett] is gone before the preseason is over."

It's a remarkable statement about the USC grad because the Carolina wideout depth chart looks as thin as any in the league.

The Panthers are reportedly "starting to think" LSU rookie Brandon LaFell is the best choice to start opposite Steve Smith. LaFell has impressed during camp and received first-team snaps at practice in Thursday. (Beat writer Darin Gantt cautions not to read too much into things, but that's what we do around here.)

Ditching Jarrett would be a continuation of an offseason theme in Carolina; they are finally letting go of many mediocre players that have stuck on the roster for too long.

Isn't Jarrett the one that ultimately forced Keyshawn off the roster?

I remember Keyshawn saying on draft weekend (he was a commentator) that he looked forward to taking the young receiver under his wing. And then KJ was cut later that off season. lol

Any bets that the Redskins will go after him, and then all of a sudden, Redskins will proclaim as to how good he really is and ---here it comes---their favorite line--- that the [Panthers] didn't use him correctly. That's what they said when they picked up Carriker: that the Rams didn't use him correctly---he's supposedly a 3-4 DE and not a 4-3 DT, yet it was their current DC Haslett as HC of the Rams at the time, that drafted Carriker and used him as a DT. Go figure. LOL!!!

The Redskins always pick up the trash. lol

And then it comes back to haunt them. If they only knew how to draft.

But they do know how to draft. McNabb was their 2nd round draft pick last year... is what they would tell you.

Yeah, they find a few gems here and there but just imagine what they could do with a full set of picks.

With Shanahan here now for them he just might get some quality players for them next year unfortunately.
