Marc Colombo's days may be numbered

The Cowboys' decision to draft USC offensive lineman Tyron Smith could have major ramifications on the future of right tackle Marc Colombo, whose position with the team may be in jeopardy.

Colombo, 32, underperformed last season, when he yielded a team-high 11 sacks. And he is due a $2.6 million option bonus within 15 days of the start of the next league year. On Thursday, Jones was asked about how the acquisition of Smith will affect Colombo. In a moment of circumlocution, Jones said the team wasn't ready to make that call but hinted what the ultimate decision would be.

"We don't have to make that decision tonight," Jones said. "[Smith] can play and will play. If he does play he has to take someone's place."

But on Thursday, Cowboys offensive line coach Hudson Houck asserted he didn't know how Colombo's status would be impacted.

"That remains to be seen," he said.

His play alone last year should be the reason for his imminent departure regardless of Tyron Smiths arrival. Hopefully this is just extra weight in the boot to finally kick him out the door.

Really. I would start Sam Young before going another year with Colombo.

And I don't think much of Young.

You guys would be mighty surprised at just how many fans still believe Columbo was a victim of the injury bug and can still be a really great RT.

They are just sad to see that he won't get a chance to prove it. They really hope he's brought back as depth w/a chance to battle for a starting spot. That, or bring him onto the coaching staff as an assistant.

He served his purpose for a period of time but it's time to move along. Your services are no longer needed............your blocking nothing but progress.

Columbo was our worst OL before the injury and came back even worse after the injury. The only reason I ever wanted to keep him before was because of him being the only OL that was mean and nasty.

Then you would be the World's #1 ranked polo player.

Colombo probably would have been a solid player had he not had the injuries early on. It robbed him of his lower base.

Loved the guys attitude and effort, but his time has come and gone.

Taking a flier on him when everyone else had basically given up was a solid move by Parcells here.
