Bio: Consensus All-American as a senior, when he was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and was named the Big 12’s defensive player of the year. Did not have an interception in 2010, but opponents completed only 18 of 52 passes thrown his direction. He had 13 pass breakups and was a major factor for the nation’s fifth-ranked passing defense. … Had five interceptions as a junior, his first season as a full-time starter. … Graduated in December with a degree in sociology, needing only seven semesters to finish his undergraduate work.

Broaddus Breakdown (viewed Texas, Oklahoma State and Missouri games): Was the starter at left cornerback for the Huskers. Is physical on the jam and in the press. Likes to try and get his hands on the receiver much like Patrick Peterson, but he doesn’t have the ease of movement that Peterson shows. … Does play with a burst when the ball in thrown in front of him. You see this when he plays off coverage. … Did a much better job of playing the ball in the air in the Missouri game than he did against Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon, who is an outstanding receiver, gave him fits. He struggled to find the ball in the air and lost separation down the field a couple of times. They also fooled him on a “hand back” initially, but he showed enough closing speed to get back only to misplay the ball in the air. … Amukamara let Marquise Goodwin of Texas get past him on the inside and had to grab him for the pass interference but did it to save a sure touchdown. … As mentioned, does a better job of coming forward and making a play on the ball than he did when it goes down the field. If he can see it, he will come get it. Did a nice job of reacting to the hitch routes and driving on the slant. … Would not call him a physical tackler. More drag down or hold and wait for help. Will play with leverage on the outside in the running game. … Was used as a blitzer in the Texas game -- much like the Cowboys use Orlando Scandrick -- but didn’t have the success that Scandrick had. On one blitz was in position for a tackle for loss but was unable to make the play. … Can see why scouts are all over the board on Amukamara. In my book on just watching the tape, he is the third best corner behind Peterson and Jimmy Smith of Colorado, but he will go before Smith because of some off-field concerns that teams must get straight before the draft. … Don’t think I would take him over one of the top offensive tackles or defensive ends.
