Miles Austin not among the best WRs

When the 2010 season ended, Miles Austin was 25th in catches (69), 14th in yards (1,041) and 21st in touchdowns (seven). He was also tied for 10th with 17 catches of 20 or more yards.

Austin was not the dominant receiver numbers-wise in 2010 like he was in 2009.

Yet, Austin is still an excellent receiver that threatens defenses with his run-after-catch ability. If there was one negative to Austin's game last year it was the career-high 10 drops.

Well in rankings among the ESPN NFL bloggers, they don't think much of Austin's game.

He's not even ranked among the Top 10 receivers in the NFL and only one of the voter, James Walker of the AFC North, gave him a vote.

You probably don't have a problem seeing Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Roddy White, Calvin Johnson and Reggie Wayne in the Top 5. Greg Jennings and DeSean Jackson are most likely Top 10 receivers and are ranked there.

After that it's pretty subjective.

I'd rank DeSean Jackson higher.

But it's fitting that he's the only NFC East WR on there.

I'd take half the list over Dez.

You can't dismiss his ten cent brain. You'd be all over it if he was a Redskin.

I love having his talent on the team but if I could trade him in for another elite WR who's capable of speaking in complete sentences I'd do it in a second.

I'd take any of those 5 over Dez.

Jackson's a toss up. I know he's better now. There isn't even a debate on that, hence this list. But Dez could surpass him shortly. And Jackson has a bad attitude that could cause problems down the road. It's a coin flip.

But the main point of this thread is Austin isn't elite. Yet he's paid like he is.

I wish I would have said last year we shouldn't sign him to a new deal like he's Andre Johnson.

Hakeem Nicks is twice the WR.

If you factor in age, then I probably wouldn't take those 5 before Bryant.

Certainly not Wayne.

But then you have guys like Nicks who I absolutely would take ahead of him.

I rarely said anything about Portis, Albert or even Sean T. during his days.

Anyway we all know the NFL is full scholars and future educators so you might have a point there.
--BUT--
I think I'll just wait until Dez does something besides be late before I pass judgement on him that's all.

The whole list is based on one year. Lloyd and Jackson being on it is proof of that.

2 or 3 years from now, players like Hakeem Nicks and Dez Bryant will be near the top, and Lloyd and Jackson will be afterthoughts.

I think both Dez and Miles having a healthy Romo through 16 games would easily be in the top 15 at least.

I want to see this list in a couple of years down the road.

Completely. Best Wr in the division doesn't disappear in games like that short little shit does all the time.

It's why you'll only see it here. With irrational fans of the team. Prop up Bryant, whose done little in the league so far. Cut down the superior DeSean Jackson. As if he puts up all his numbers every year running one route.

It doesn't matter what these people say. Around the NFL, they know who the best WR in this division is.

Jackson isn't the superior all around receiver.

He's a one-trick pony.

If he were a legit #1 receiver in the league, he'd be averaging more than 55 receptions a year, especially in a pass-happy offense coached by Andy Reid.

It doesn't matter what these people say. Around the NFL, they know who the best WR in this division is.

You'll find journalists propping Jackson up. But I bet you dollars to donuts the majority of worthwhile scouts and GM's would rank Miles Austin, Hakeem Nicks, and I'll say Dez Bryant if he's able to build on 2011 the season he was having this year, all ahead of Desean Jackson.

And that's reality.
