Nick Eatman said this yesterday during Talking Cowboys.

It's such a strange thing to be so devoid of speed that a player like Brice Butler is being considered "the answer".

Yes sir.
If you have to put a guy over the top, that's one less in the box and other valuable considerations.

Whitehead has noticeable speed, but only on reverses.

So we should have guys that don't scare DBs with their speed because you thought of the worst examples possible?

I've wished forever that we'd get more speed. Don't know why we never seem to. Jerry seems to think big, slow guys are better, maybe continuing Parcells' love of big players at every position.

But it would be nice to get some cheap TDs every once in a while, either throwing to a WR over the top or just someone outrunning everyone after breaking a tackle on a short pass.

He'd a bit of a headcase but I would see if Percy Harvin is serious about retirement. He (the player on the field) is exactly what we need at the 2nd WR.

In the Garrett offense he relies more on bigger receivers. Most bigger receivers aren't fast.

See San Diego. See Minnesota. Etc.

Fast guys that can run routes, get open and catch. Yeah, that's great.

But the obsession with the idea that speed is all that matters outside and that's the only way to "scare" defenses is baloney. Pretty sure teams are terrified of Dez Bryant, that's why they double and triple team him.

Warner Rams. Speed.

Manning Colts. Speed.

Those are the only two times the Coryell pass offense philosophy has won the Super Bowl n the last 20 years.

It's really just simple logic. Everybody knows the 9 routes. How fast you can get to the weakness in the coverage really dictates the success. But where Jason gets the tall WR comes from Norv in SD (where all parts of Jason's philosophy appeared to start) where Norv tried to use height to beat the ubiquitous coverage instead of using separation. It's also mixed into the new philosophy of engaging passing interference probability.
Even worse is that this tall WR philosophy only applies to WRs because Dallas could easily move chains with Escobar or Bennett in the past but Jason's playbook is exclusively designed for WRs. If you notice, the RBs and TEs only run 2 kinds of routes.

Even Broaddus acknowledged that Dallas is sorely lacking speed.

If this were a WCO then great, we are stocked and ready to play. But this group is the Greatest Slow on Turf for a Coryell offense.

Even go back to the original Fouts Chargers or go look up the offense in Wikipedia. The offense needs speed. It is built on downfield routes or really, if the QB has to wait for primary and secondary routes to open there is high probability that the QB will take a beating.

Who the hell said that?
Not me.
No one said get rid of Dez,or anything like that. Are you honestly saying slower #2 ,3 and 4 wideouts are ok as long as we've got Dez?
We're not going to "scare" any NFL defense no matter what.Outside speed demands coverage and help over the top.
I said scare the DB,and it would. If you're in man coverage against a guy who can outrun you, you're fucked.
You know this. What are you going on about?

Red's offense seems to be the worst in the league for getting separation. Every game I watch that isnt a Cowboys game I see WR's all over the field getting separation, for both teams, and I sit there amazed wondering why we cant do it.
