Cowboys intend to keep Garrett

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett is entering the final three games of his contract, yet Dallas is determined to keep him in place, sources told ESPN, as owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones have told people they intend to bring him back next season.

After three straight 8-8 seasons, Jason Garrett has clinched his first winning season in Dallas.
Even though a playoff spot still is at stake, and could be heavily influenced by the result of Sunday's game in Philadelphia, the Jones family is squarely behind Garrett and the growth he has demonstrated to them.

Plus, Garrett already has clinched his first winning season with the team after three seasons of finishing 8-8.

"Obviously, it's an improvement this year, and an improvement at a time when a lot of people didn't think we would improve," Stephen Jones said on The Ticket (1310 AM) in Dallas on Wednesday night. "They actually thought we might go backwards, and here we are at nine wins with three games to go. We've got a lot of work to do. But I really think Jason is the right guy for this job, and I know Jerry thinks the same thing. I certainly see Jason being a big part of our future."

First place in the NFC East is on the line in Sunday's game against the Eagles. If the Cowboys win their final three games, they will win the division, but a loss Sunday could mean they'll need help to make the postseason as a wild card.

Archer's contribution was listening to the Ticket and recording Stephen's comments for Schefter.

This is a non-story that was reported earlier, but with a bit of typical Archer embellishment.

Lets see if they are saying the same stuff if we get manhandled tonight like we did two weeks ago

Great, sign him to another deal but shift his title to where his current level of responsibility is: QB coach. Then hire someone as HC who is not going to hurt the team with his naïveté.

This team goes the way of Romo. Ginger is just riding those coat tails. We will be fucked once Romo is done.

What a crime it would be if he got it over Bruce Arians.

First COY to have his owner take playcalling from him and decide his coordinators and win the following year.

Exactly.

People want to use the injuries excuse for our woes the past few years.... look at the Cardinals. That team is decimated by injuries. That Bruce Arians is doing is insane.

I dont think it'd be a crime. Arizona nearly made the playoffs last yr, the expectations for them were higher to begin with.

Most people thought Dallas was a 6-10 team waiting to happen, seems a vast majority thought we would be 3rd or even 4th place in this division.

Plenty of coaches of the year dont call plays on either side of the ball.

Define "decimated"

I'll give you they lost Palmer and now Stanton, and thats bad without question. But some of you act like half their team is on IR or something.

They certainly havent suited up 20 different DL's as active on game days like we did last yr.

:facepalm Because their owners took it from them?

And do you think this team has 6-10 talent with an offense as talented as any in football?

And the Cards have lost their QB, at times their second string QB, their starting RB, excellent starting DTs and LBs and at times possible HOF WR. How do you think we'd do if we lost Romo and Murray for the year plus several games without Dez or, say, Crawford?

The QB thing is a major injury no question.

I checked, we actually have more players on IR than they do. We lost our best defensive player before camp ever started. We lost our top defensive player drafted for all training camp, preseason and half the regular season. Romo has not been 100% at any time this yr and has missed time. Our starting RT and LG have missed games and game time. Our best LB from the start of regular season went on IR. Our starting MLB (McClain) has been in and out.
