Good news on Byrd, liked the way he played in preseason.

Cowboys add two to practice squad

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys made two practice-squad moves Tuesday, re-signing linebacker Keith Smith and adding wide receiver LaRon Byrd.

To make room for Byrd, the Cowboys released Tim Benford.

Smith was cut on Monday when the Cowboys added safety Jakar Hamilton to 53-man roster after his roster exemption expired. With injuries to Rolando McClain (groin) and Bruce Carter (quadriceps), it is possible Smith will be re-signed to the active roster by the end of the week.

Byrd was cut last week by the Cleveland Browns. He appeared in one game but did not have a catch. The Browns claimed Byrd off waivers after he caught seven passes for 103 yards and a touchdown in the preseason for the Cowboys.

Liked Byrd. Smith is a guy. A lot of people hoping Hamilton is the answer to Free Safety issues. I must have been watching a different Jakar Hamilton last year.

Honestly believe Jakar will help win games this year. He was super in OtAs but quiet in TC. All safeties were quiet until Dixon layed serious wood in SD. Glad to have him back

Shoulda kept Benford. One of the few WRs with both experience in the offense and speed. Real speed. Just watched the rewind of the Cowboy/Texan game. TWilly may have trapped that Romo bomb against his clavicle but he missed two TDs because he can't catch with outstretched hands. Won't be long before he slumps. Can't bodycatch forever.
