Cowboys’ Brandon Carr: “I’m trying to take over the league” :awkward

Posted by Michael David Smith on May 19, 2014, 6:15 AM EDT

Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr has big plans for his second season in Dallas.

“I’m trying to take over the league,” Carr told the Star-Telegram. “I get emotional when I say that because I’m dead serious, man. I’ve been playing this game for six years now, and I’m just ready to make that jump and become that shutdown corner.”

Carr has started all 32 games for the Cowboys since signing a five-year, $50.1 million contract in 2012, but he hasn’t been quite the elite cornerback that a contract of that stature would seem to demand. This year, Carr expects to shut down opposing No. 1 receivers.

“That’s the plan,” Carr said. “As this thing gets on a run, we’ll see how it shakes out, but we just want to be in a position to win ballgames. We felt like we disappointed ourselves last year. We’ve got a big chip on our shoulders. But last year is the past, and it’s time for us to clean the slate and get ready to play this year.”

Taking over the league might be hyperbole, but if Carr plays like one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL this year, that would go a long way toward transforming the Cowboys’ defense from the major liability it was last year.

Played good in 2012, played pretty bad most of last year.

I read in another post about this that he is quoted as saying he has lost 10lbs, that's probably a good start. Looked like he really lacked quickness last yr.

These guys are really hard to like sometimes. Just STFU until you really have something to talk about that means anything.

Every single year from these guys. After last year he needs to just shut his mouth. He was atrocious.

This team has underperformed expectations and has been a laughing stock for 5 years... just now they're getting a chip on their shoulders?

He's never been a really good corner.

He was decent in KC, and got paid handsomely for it. Pretty dumb.

Get him a Safety. He's decent but he has to cover WR's too long and with no over-the-top help. Hard to judge our CB's because their situation is unlike almost any other team's.

The lack of a pass rush has a bigger impact than the mediocrity of the safeties.

Cams is right, but IMO you do t give a guy a $50mil contract and give him a pass until they can find him some help.

He's worth about half of what he got, and he'll flame out in a few years and sign with Oakland.

Deion didn't take over the league and Carr isn't 1/10th of Deion since he sucks ass and all.

The last player on the team who needs to be talking is Brandon Carr.

This team needs to learn how to draft players so we don't have to overpay for free agents like him. He's been one of the worst signings ever, if not the worst. I can't name a worse signing.
