16. Dallas Cowboys: Louis Nix, NT, Notre Dame
The Cowboys would love it if someone like Louis Nix fell to them because they have major problems at defensive tackle. Jason Hatcher happens to be a free agent, while the other starter, Nick Hayden, was an abomination this past season. Nix can fit in either defense, so he would make lots of sense just in case Jerry Jones wants to eventually move back to the 3-4.


47. Dallas Cowboys: David Yankey, G/OT, Stanford
The Cowboys are so desperate at guard that they lured Brian Waters out of semi-retirement. Waters was then knocked out for the year. So much for that.


78. Dallas Cowboys: Telvin Smith, OLB, Florida State
When defenders like Ernie Sims and DeVonte Holloman are playing major snaps for the defense, something absolutely needs to be done.

Love the first two. Don't know anything about Telvin Smith, but disagree with the logic behind the pick. I think Holloman is going to be a good player for us.

He has AJ McCarron going 10 selections after we take Smtih. Give me the QB in the third round and I'll be happy.

Nix isn't a fit for this defense, no way he's the pick in the first round.

Telvin Smith is interesting...would have to be a weak side guy because he only weighs like 220.

Carter and Carr were abominations last season, especially Carter. Nick Hayden wasn't.

I don't think he couldn't be a good player in this scheme, but he would be more of a space eater, and I don't think its worth using that kind of a pick in the first round.

I didn't mean he couldn't work, I meant as a first rounder. My bad.

Well that certainly makes sense. You can get good space eaters in the later rounds. We could've had Josh Chapman last year (or was it the year before...) Josh Brent was a 7th in the supp draft. So you're right.

I just love the idea of the first two picks being dedicated to the trenches.

Still, with the Stanford Guard, I don't think we'd go that route because I think the team really loves Leary and Bernadeau - right or wrong.

A first rounder on the DL should be a guy who is going to get sacks and play in the backfield. That means either a speed rusher or penetrating DT. Depending on how things shake out, there could be a couple of different options available at 17

I mean, for fucks sake... we were "counting on" Ben Bass this year. Losing that guy was a blow.

Nick Hayden was one of best defenders. Nick "Golden Cock" Hayden.

18. Dallas Cowboys: C.J. Mosley, OLB, Alabama
Bruce Carter disappointed in 2013 and lost playing time to veteran journeyman Ernie Sims. Carter could be a better fit as a Sam (strongside) linebacker in the Tampa 2. Mosley could be perfect to fit the Derrick Brooks role for Kiffin. Even if Kiffin gets fired, Mosley would be an upgrade for Dallas.

Mosley totaled 102 tackles with nine tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and five passes broken up this year. He had a good game versus Texas A&M with 12 tackles. Against LSU, Mosley was around the ball all night, making tackles and having a physical presence. He finished with 12 tackles, two passes broken up and 1.5 tackles for a loss, although he did drop an easy interception. The senior showcased a well-rounded game with good run defense, pass coverage and blitzing ability.

There were worries after Alabama lost a lot of talent in its front seven to the 2012 NFL Draft, but Mosley stepped up to set the tone for the Crimson Tide defense last year and helped lead the team to another National Championship. He was excellent and led the program in tackles with 107. The junior also notched two interceptions, four sacks, eight tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and two passes broken up.

The 6-foot-2, 232-pounder had an excellent debut in 2010. The freshman was third in tackles on Alabama's defense with 67. He also had 10 pass break-ups and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. Mosley was banged up some in 2011 and totaled only 37 tackles and 4.5 tackles for a loss.

Mosely thrives in pass coverage, so he is tailor-made for an NFL defense. The senior has a lot of talent and has been very productive for Nick Saban.


47. Dallas Cowboys: George Uko, DT, USC
The Cowboys have to get some interior defensive linemen help. They need an interior pass-rusher.

Uko played well in 2013. He totaled 36 tackles with seven tackles for a loss and five sacks. Uko broke into the starting lineup in 2012 and totaled 31 tackles, nine tackles for a loss and five sacks. The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder needs to add weight for the NFL, and thus should have returned for his senior year. Instead, he entered the 2014 NFL Draft. Uko is quick and has developed some pass-rushing moves.


78. Dallas Cowboys: Trevor Reilly, DE, Utah
Dallas could use some defensive ends. Reilly could be a replacement for Anthony Spencer.

Reilly (6-5, 255) played linebacker and defensive end for Utah. For the NFL, he could play either position, but would need to add more weight for defensive end. The senior recorded 100 tackles with 8.5 sacks, 16 tackles for a loss, two passes broken up, one interception and one forced fumble this season.

Reilly notched 69 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four passes batted and three forced fumbles in 2012. In 2011, he picked up 47 tackles, five sacks and four forced fumbles.

Ughhh...

And into another offseason we go with this stupid fucking team.

This defense depends on pass rushers much more than it does run stuffers. Its harder to find pass rushers late than it is run stuffers. Agreed, that the whole DLine needs an infusion of youth, but I think the first round priority has to be a guy that gets to the QB. I don't think Nix is it.

i want a LB just as much as a i want a DL....i hate bruce carter just as much as i hate the redskins

I disagree, Nix can play either scheme and play it well. And Nix probably goes before we pick anyways so it won't matter.

It figures we would draft a true NT now that we no longer run the 3-4.

Still, if he is BPA and all of our other targets are gone, I'd be okay with him. He'll suck up blocking and help our short-yardage Defense.

Production from a 1-tech in this defense is minimal, even if the guy is great. No sense in passing on a more impactful player for him.

Agree with that. Unless the guy is Vince Wilfork, you don't draft him that high.

Just look at last year. The whole reason they didn't draft Floyd was they thought he was more of a 1-tech. This guy is definitely that.

I've barely looked at the draft this year but we need to find this year's Sheldon Richardson. Sounds like there isn't one of those this year, though.

Alot of our LBs had a hard time getting off blocks. A space eater is kind of what you need in a cover-2 defense. Think Booger McFarland.
