The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released a player, but not the one who wants out in the worst way.

Per a league source, receiver Kevin Ogletree’s contract has been terminated. Since he’s a vested veteran, he instantly becomes a free agent.

He caught eight passes for 70 yards and one touchdown in four games, including one start, for the Bucs.

Ogletree is entitled to take the balance of his $750,000 base salary as termination pay, if he so chooses. Every NFL player who has completed four or more years of service is entitled once in his career to collect termination pay, if cut during a season.

If Ogletree takes the termination pay, the money won’t be offset by any money earned elsewhere this season.

For Ogletree, the unpaid balance is $573,000. Quarterback Josh Freeman’s entitlement to termination pay in the amount of $6.44 million has been one of the primary impediments to a decision to release him.

You see this trend a lot. Guy hangs around in Dallas 3 or 4 years doing absolutely nothing, signs with someone else, is released within a few months.

We're doing it again with Cole Beasley.

He's actually caught some passes this year and last. Ogletree hardly did a thing in 4 years and he never knew the plays. Same thing happened to Tashard Choice, Felix Jones, who else...

Then the guy we release after training camp in his rookie year turns into Danny Amendola.
