Anthony Spencer's 2013 debut was nothing to email home about. The defensive end had two tackles and a quarterback hit, playing roughly half of the Chiefs' 65 plays.

But it was a start.

"It felt good. The more I played the better it felt," Spencer said.

The plan was for the Cowboys to ease Spencer back into the lineup by playing him on third downs. He played more than expected, staying in for stretches in place of George Selvie, who started.

"We went in just trying to play on third downs, but the better I felt the more I wanted to do, so we did a little bit extra," Spencer said.

His left knee was wrapped in ice as he walked toward the team bus, but he said his knee held up well.

Spencer had knee surgery July 25 and returned to practice Wednesday. He was limited in Wednesday's and Friday's practices and took Thursday as a planned day off.
