This piece of land in the East River is called North Brother Island and is situated between the Bronx and Riker’s Island in New York City. Measuring only 400m by 250m, it was uninhabited until 1885 when Riverside Hospital was moved there as a way of keeping people with smallpox and other contagious diseases away from the rest of the population. In 1904, a steamship was shipwrecked on the shore of this island and over 1000 people died in the resultant fire or by drowning.

That's pretty rad. I'd love to explore that island.

I'd like to buy a metal detector, visor, fannypack, tube socks with red and blue stripes at the calf, khaki shorts, a tight fitting v-neck tee, and really go to town on that. . . . .town.

Damn, that's pretty sweet.

I'm actually shocked no one has bought the island and turned it into something.
