APRedskins defensive end Adam Carriker suffered an injury to his right knee on the second play of Sunday’s game in St. Louis, and it appears that he could be done for the season.

Although the Redskins won’t know until an MRI today how severe the injury is, the Redskins expect him to need surgery, and head coach Mike Shanahan sounded after the game like he’s expecting not to have Carriker for a long time.

“It doesn’t look good,” Shanahan said, via the Washington Post.

Carriker has been a starter since arriving in Washington and has played in every game in the last three years.

The Redskins also lost outside linebacker Brian Orakpo on Sunday to a pectoral injury. There’s no word on the severity of that injury, but he already had pectoral surgery once this year, and his comments afterward suggested that he could need surgery again.

“It just ripped on me, man,” Orakpo said. “Same injury as before. It’s just frustrating, man.”

The Redskins left St. Louis with plenty to be frustrated about.

Shanahan says Orakpo and Carriker out for the season
Posted by Darin Gantt on September 17, 2012, 3:11 PM EDT

APThe Redskins got a double dose of bad news Monday, as coach Mike Shanahan said that defensive end Adam Carriker and outside linebacker Brian Orakpo were both out for the season with injuries suffered Sunday.

According to Rich Campbell of the Washington Times, Carriker suffered a quadriceps tendon tear, and Orakpo tore a pectoral muscle in the loss to the Rams.

They knew initially the prognosis on Carriker wasn’t good, as Shanahan said yesterday “It doesn’t look good,” for the defensive end.

It’s perhaps more troubling for Orakpo, who had surgery on the same area earlier this year.

There’s not exactly a lot of available talent on the street to replace them, though pass-rusher Andre Carter has been making the rounds.

Redskins have lost Carriker and Orakpo for the season, massive, massive blow to what had the makings of an elite front 7. Wow

During my pre-draft scouting of Orakpo, I noted that his steroid induced pectorals would be subject to tears.

Looks like I was right.
