Brett Favre might be without his top target for the first half of the 2010 season.

Sidney Rice, who has missed all of training camp with a hip injury suffered in the NFC Championship Game, was at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., on Monday and will likely have surgery, the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune reported.

The newspaper reported that Rice has seen three specialists this offseason, and two of the doctors said that surgery was his best option. If he has the surgery he could miss the first half of the season.

Rice went to his first Pro Bowl in 2009, catching 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns. He was just as good in the postseason, with 10 receptions for 184 yards and four touchdowns.

Severe migraines have also called into question how effective Percy Harvin, the Vikings' second-leading receiver in 2009 and the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, will be in his second season.

Harvin was taken by ambulance from a practice last week after suffering a severe migraine, although he joined his teammates one day later. He missed most of training camp because of migraines, but coach Brad Childress has downplayed his concern about Harvin.

With depth an obvious concern at wide receiver, the Vikings are expected to sign free agent receiver Javon Walker, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The source said the signing was to take place Monday but there was still no official confirmation from the team.

We play the Vikings in week 6 . . . so this is good news.

~cue the 'i want to beat them at full strength' crowd.~

This further cements in my head that I really believe Minnesota (and Favruh) will not come close to duplicating last years season. I had them at 10-6 before. Now, 9-7.

Wow, both Rice and Harvin not being there could be devasting to the Vikes.

Also from a fantasy point of view that will hurt.

The thing is that this could have been taken care off during the offseason---the surgery that isa, and he would have been ready to go. But considering as to what he did to us last year in the playoffs... I'm not upset that he will not be playing in week 5.
