SAN ANTONIO -- After five practices it looks as if the offense is catching up to the defense. Before we get to that, let's talk about who missed the morning practice, done in full pads, at the Alamodome.
*Sean Lee (strained quad), Jason Hatcher (hyper extended elbow), Keith Brooking (knee), Stephen Hodge (knee), Martellus Bennett (ankle), Josh Brent (hand), Lorenzo Washington (hamstring) and Akwasi Owusu-Ansah (shoulder) missed practice. Hatcher and Lee are new injuries and Brooking most likely will practice Tuesday afternoon. Washington might also return and Bennett is getting closer.
*As we told you, the offense is looking pretty good. In the first two days of camp, Tony Romo was underthrowing and overthrowing his receivers. But he's been in a nice flow here the last two days. He connected with Jason Witten on two nice throws down the middle of the field and zipped one into Roy Williams as Mike Jenkins provided tight coverage. Romo's two best throws came on a route to Dez Bryant, who wasn't looking for the ball when Romo let it go. Romo also landed a nice deep pass to Miles Austin for a touchdown. Romo showed poise in the pocket by moving around, part of his feeling the pressure, to complete passes.
*Stephen McGee just doesn't have a chance. Not so much to win the starting job or even the backup position (held by Jon Kitna), but how can the coaches evaluate him after seeing some of his efforts? He hardly is getting time to throw the ball. On consecutive pass plays, DeMarcus Ware sacked him and other times he's under duress.
*We got our first scuffle of camp when Deon Anderson and Bradie James locked heads. As Anderson was trying to free his hands to land a 'punch', James kneed him in the side.
"It's camp, it's like the fourth-day in and guys are heated and guys are tired," Anderson said. "You know Bradie and I have a understanding that whatever happens on the field, stays on the field. Bradie's my man."
After the Anderson-James dust up, Montrae Holland had a takedown of Jason Williams. Holland sent Williams flat on his back.
*Interesting morning for the tackles: Robert Brewster who has struggled a little bit here, did a nice job on containing Anthony Spencer, as he tired to get by him on a spin move. Alex Barron, who the Cowboys have heaped praise, failed to slow down Curtis Johnson on a rush. Johnson, somehow, was able to duck under Barron's arm to reach the quarterback.
