    I havenít bought it yet.

I gave him the specs and the exact model number and asked him to see if he can match or beat the price. If he can find the same prebuilt machine for the same price Iíll buy it from him. He said he will try to match it and get back to me tomorrow. But he said it was a killer deal and he doesnít think he can match that price. If he can even come close to the price Iíll buy it from him instead.

But he quoted me $960 earlier today for a similar machine with a standard SSD drive. (Not the m.2 MVNe drive I want) so hopefully he can find a way to build it or find it cheaper.

Even if I have to buy the computer elsewhere Iím still going to bring the new computer to him to have him install the second HD and set it up for me.

He was going to charge $40 to install the HD. If I bought all the parts separately he was only going to charge $80 to build the entire system.

I just purchased the computer today. My local guy said he couldnít even come close to the price I got.

I checked toms hardware and tested the regular onboard video card on the computer compared to the GTX 1060 thatís installed in it and the video card is 623% faster than the standard onboard graphics and 2764% faster than what was in my old computer

Iím really curious to see how much faster this new system will be. It arrives Thursday. The old system took 43 minutes to render a 6 minute video. Iím looking forward to seeing how much this new computer speeds up my daily workflow

    Well here is another update

I ordered the new computer on Tuesday with free 2 day shipping. So it was supposed to arrive tomorrow Thursday

So I get up this morning and check the tracking number. It says itís in process. All is good. So I head off to work.

When I get home from work I check the tracking number again and it now says the item has been cancelled.

No email from the seller about the cancellation. Nothing. So I check my account and the $700 was refunded to my account.

So now I call the seller to find out what the hell is going on. Apparently they flagged the sale as fraud and cancelled the order. When I purchased it I did it on a guest account and did not create an account with them. Apparently this somehow caused the fraud flag because of the guest account and high dollar value of the sale.

    Whatever

Now I just want the damn computer so I reorder the item. Then call them to see whatís going on. That is when they tell me about the fraud cancellation deal. But when I reorder it now itís stating that it wonít arrive until Dec 3rd. The site states itís free 2 day shipping but still lists Dec 3rd as the date of arrival. Not acceptable

Anyway, after an hour on the phone and speaking to a manager finally the item is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. And my new $700 computer is only going to cost my $630 because they gave me a $70 discount for my inconvenience

Iím usually not one to bitch and complain. But sometimes it pays off.

Well the new computer showed up today.

So I did a video rendering test against the old machine

It took the old machine 43 minutes to convert a 6 minute video and it only took the new machine 3 and a half minutes!

So Iím happy with that type of improvement. That will save me a bunch of time

Amazing how the more transistors we're able to embed into each square inch of silicon, the more the technological curve of computing power steepens. And that rate, the increase in the number of transistors per square inch? That curve is exponential now. Kurtzweil's Law of Accelerating Returns is at play in a big way.

Itís been soooo long since Iíve had a new computer and Iíve been out of the tech scene for years.

Iíll tell ya what, I will never go back to a non solid state hard drive again. Having the new computer literally boot up in seconds and be ready to work as opposed to a few minutes with my old set up is amazing

From the time I hit the power button I can be up and running in under 30 seconds. This new computer will boot up and be ready quicker than my old computer would coming out of sleep mode. I donít even need to use sleep mode anymore

Make sure you don't ever run any of the maintenance tools on that SSD, like defragment for example. Not only is it never necessary, it can fuck up your data.

Also beware of your power situation, don't just leave the sumbitch on all the time. SSDs don't react well to outages, spikes, brownouts...

Turn it off and even switch it off in back, after every use to protect it. I even unplug mine, separate it from the utility.

Thx for the heads up on not defragging the ssd drive. Iíd never heard that before.

I used to defrag regularly on my old computer just to keep the old bastard running. So I was in the habit of doing it often.

As for powering it off, I will do that after each use. There is no need to ever keep it on for an extended period of time or to even use the sleep mode anymore. The extremely fast boot time on this new computer made that a thing of the past.

I used to always use the sleep mode just so I wouldnít have to wait the 5-10 minutes it used to take to boot up every time

Not only does this new computer have a SSD drive. It has the NMVe M.2 SSD drive that uses the PCI connector which is exponentially faster than the standard SSD drive that uses the sata connectors.

What VPN do you subscribe to? I've been researching them.
