Did you know that Tony Romo is 2nd in passer rating? Not for 2014, but for all quarterbacks, in the history of the league? Jerry wanted to draft Johnny Idiotface Manziel last year and had to be restrained by his son from doing so.

Jerry Jones must have been bullied by the safeties on his team at Arkansas because he operates as though the position literally does not exist.

Jerry operates like an oilman. He's a gambler and believes in taking risks with chance that he'll strike oil. That's why he loves Romo so much. Romo is the same way. He believes in taking risks on the field. Sometimes it pays off and other times it doesn't.

Every time you let that ball leave your hand on a pass, it's a risk. No matter who you are.

It's 2016 tho

Still crazy how dysfunctional the Cowboys were as an organization this point last year. I think this was about the time bad reports about Hardy started surfacing. We were stuck in the mud at QB. And now look at the club...

There are things such as high and low percentage risks though. Romo never met triple coverage he didn't deem unworthy of a throw.

He matured a lot in that regard, yes, but he threw a couple into triple coverage last year against the Panthers on Turkey Day which resulted in interceptions.

Yea but there is a difference between throwing to the open guy and throwing up a 50/50 ball or forcing a ball into double coverage. Dak throws very few 50/50 balls and has yet to try to force a ball into double coverage. That's why Beasley's numbers have gone way up. Teams never double him. He's always single covered and runs such good routes that he's almost always open.

It simplifies things greatly when you do those play action rollouts, though. Romo always had to drop back and basically deal with the entire field.

Plus Dak has an accuracy that literally no one saw coming.

It's really tough for me to put everything on Romo. He reads defenses exceptionally well and can put the ball anywhere he wants to. The issue though is that, like Brady, Romo needs to operate with getting the ball out quickly because he really doesn't have the WRs for the pure passing system that Jason thinks he has. Romo should not have been given the offense at his own discretion and an actual offensive strategist should have been directing the plays. Romo would run around and complete a pass only to have Jason applaud "the play". "The play" failed and should have been changed in some way. Garrett by himself had nothing to add or change to his system so the offense and Romos tendencies were easy to defend or to anticipate and to stop.

Fast forward to the Carolina game (which was similar to a 2012 Atlanta Falcon game) where Kuechly was alerting his players pre-snap of what Dallas was going to do and then at the snap ran right back to the spot that he knew Romo would throw it. It's a timing based offense so decisions to throw are made before the players are in place. Kuechly intercepted. That's why the whole "execute" the play that the 12-year old Zoners routinely endorse, makes no sense. If you execute a Coryell play perfectly and run your route to your spot, and the defense knows the routes too, the defense has the advantage. They can just go to the location directly and not stay rigid to a pattern. Just like Kuechly.

Right, there's degrees of risk. I understand that. There's also well calculated risk and just plain dumb risk.
