1st cutdown in Tuesday, don't believe its all that hard for them to get from 90 to 75.

Here's my predictions for the final 53:

QB (2)- Romo, Weeden. After some of the comments Weeden made last week, I wonder if he might consider retiring. Even if he doesn't, the FO might look for a more capable #2. No way do they keep 3 after what we saw the last two weeks from Vaughan and Showers.

RB (3)- McFadden, Randle & Dunbar.

FB (1)- Clutts. He dropped a ball last night but he caught a couple others I think. His blocking is also pretty solid.

WR (5)- Dez, T Williams, Beasley, Street & TBD. Like Broaddus, not sure Whitehead has done enough to be the 5th guy and he still doesn't catch punts clean. This spot might go to someone from another team.

TE (3 or 4)- Witten, Escobar, Swaim & maybe TBD. I think Hanna will be traded for a late rd pick or another role player. I think the TBD will be a guy who's a strong blocker

OL (8 or 9)- T Smith, Leary, Frederick, Martin, Free, Bernadeau, Collins, Weems, maybe TBD. Definitely wont be surprised if they pick up another veteran T. Doesn't look like Chaz Green will be active this yr and the 7th rd pick Gibson isn't ready, probably a PS candidate.

DL (11)- Hardy*, Lawrence, Gregory, Mincey, Gardner, Russell, Hayden, T Crawford, J Crawford, Coleman, Bishop. Hardy doesn't count the first 4 games. 11 is a little long on DL, maybe Bishop is odd man out after Hardy returns. I think T McClain gets cut or traded.

LB (7)- Lee, R McClain*, Hitchens, Wilbur, Wilson, Gachkar, K Smith. McClain doesn't count first 4 games. If K Smith isn't the last LB, perhaps they snag one off waivers at final cut down. Whoever last LB is, probably gets whacked when McClain returns. Smith has made quite a few plays in preseason.

CB (5)- Carr, Claiborne, Patmon, White, B Jones

FS/SS (4)- Church, Wilcox, Heath, McCray or TBD. Definitely wont be surprised if either one or both of Heath & McCray are cut and replaced with someone from another team. Both have had lousy camps/preseasons IMO and neither has made any difference on ST, which is supposedly why they are here.

ST (3)- Bailey, Jones, LaDouceur

I think that's 54 if you take the high end of the numbers I have, but Hardy and McClain don't count so there's one open roster spot. Maybe they keep a 6th WR (if they are in love with Jenkins) or add another CB or OL.

I predict it's 53 right kind of guys who believe in putting on football uniforms and football pads and practicing football.

Funny how Hitchens seem to have gone missing in the talk for LBs. Is he injured? Haven't heard much of him in al camp.

Cowboys' roster projection: Getting below 53 players

Todd Archer, ESPN Staff Writer

IRVING, Texas -- With just one preseason game left and the cut to 75 players on Tuesday, I wanted to take a little different look at projecting the Dallas Cowboys’ 53-man roster for the third time since the start of camp.

I want to cut down below the 53-man limit. Why?

Because I believe that’s how the Cowboys and other teams do it. We see them add players after the final cuts all the time. The Cowboys always seem to add two or three players with waiver claims or low-level trades.

I cannot project who the Cowboys could go after as a free agent, waiver-wire pickup or trade, but I will look at positions that could see upgrades and additions or could give them some pieces to deal.

Let’s call this a 49-man roster projection.

Away we go:

Quarterbacks (2): Tony Romo, Brandon Weeden

Comment: I have had Dustin Vaughan on the first two projections but he hasn’t played well enough. Maybe he is a victim of expectations after spending the year on the 53-man roster. I considered Jameill Showers for the final spot because of his special-teams’ ability. While I laud what he has been able to do, I think the Cowboys can find a more experienced special-teamer off waivers.

The Cowboys haven't stopped expressing confidence in Darren McFadden despite his injury history. Richard W. Rodriguez/Getty Images

Running backs (3): Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Lance Dunbar

Comment: No changes here. For as much as people want to see the Cowboys go after another runner -- any runner -- I just don’t see it happening. Randle will be fine. I’m a little dubious about McFadden, but the Cowboys have done nothing but express confidence in him.

Fullbacks (1): Tyler Clutts

Comment: No change here but if the Cowboys find themselves in a bind, they can let him go and deal with the fullback spot with their tight end position if necessary.

Wide receivers (4): Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Devin Street

Comment: I don’t believe Lucky Whitehead is a lock to make the roster, but he is a favorite of Jerry Jones. I believe the Cowboys should look for a more veteran outside receiver to protect themselves in case of injuries to Bryant and/or Williams. None of the other younger receivers has been able to sustain success through camp to make the Cowboys believe there is a keeper.

Tight ends (4): Jason Witten, James Hanna, Gavin Escobar, Geoff Swaim

Comment: No change, but I do wonder if the Cowboys could get a piece in return for Hanna. He is in the final year of his contract and they like Swaim. I’m not advocating this by any stretch because I believe Hanna remains the second-best all-around tight end on the roster. He is a solid blocker and smart in the run game.

Tackles: (3): Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Darrion Weems

Comment: I’m sticking with Weems as the third tackle but I do wonder if the Cowboys look for an upgrade. Weems has been better but he’s not been as good as Jermey Parnell a few years ago when they took a chance on him as their No. 3 tackle.

Guards (3): Zack Martin, Ronald Leary, La’el Collins

Comment: No change here. And by the way, there is no chance Collins is the Week 1 starter at left guard if Leary is healthy. There has been no competition there whatsoever.

Centers (2): Travis Frederick, Mackenzy Bernadeau

Comment: No change here either. Bernadeau’s experience is a plus.

Defensive tackles (5): Tyrone Crawford, Nick Hayden, Terrell McClain, Jack Crawford, Davon Coleman

Comment: It came down to Ken Bishop and Coleman. Bishop is a bigger body but Coleman can disrupt things more. It’s possible the Cowboys keep six defensive tackles as well, but in order to get to 50, I went with Coleman over Bishop.

Defensive ends (5*): Greg Hardy (suspended), DeMarcus Lawrence, Jeremy Mincey, Randy Gregory, Ryan Russell, Lavar Edwards

Comment: Edwards gets the call over Ben Gardner for the last spot. This is likely just a four-week stint with Hardy’s suspension. Jack Crawford can play some end so he brings some versatility.

Linebackers (6*): Sean Lee, Rolando McClain (suspended), Anthony Hitchens, Andrew Gachkar, Damien Wilson, Kyle Wilber, Keith Smith

Comment: The big change is keeping Smith over Jasper Brinkley, who was guaranteed $2 million as a free agent. I might be taking a reach and the Cowboys cut Smith after last year because they wanted a better option defensively. He’s done a nice job on special teams and in limited playing time. But I can still see the Cowboys adding a special-teams type linebacker at the final cuts.

Cornerbacks (5): Brandon Carr, Byron Jones, Morris Claiborne, Tyler Patmon, Corey White

Comment: Orlando Scandrick is out for the year, so the number goes from six to five. The Cowboys don’t have a sixth corner ready for action on the roster. They could add a young player after the final cuts, but it won’t be somebody to push Claiborne and Patmon. It’ll be a depth player.

Safeties (3): Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, Jeff Heath

Comment: Danny McCray didn’t play against the Minnesota Vikings, so maybe that should be a sign about his future. It didn’t help that the kickoff team gave up a touchdown. The versatility of Jones and White offers the Cowboys some cover here.

Specialists (3): Dan Bailey, Chris Jones, L.P. Ladouceur

Comment: Same as it ever was.

holy shit. 350 million people in this country and they can't find someone better than Heath. the fact that he even went to camp is a travesty. I fucking hate this team sometimes.
