We attempted to rank the coaches as players, and much like in our basketball study, there was virtually no connection between playing greatness and coaching greatness. Some of the most successful coaches on this list scarcely played a meaningful down, and some of the best players have a long way to go before their coaching success matches their exploits between the lines of the gridiron.

Data shows playing success has nothing to do with coaching success. The argument for the Rooney rule was that we need more black coaches. And that since 75% of the league is black then having 25% of the coaches be black must good ol boy racism .

When has a rule/law aimed towards blacks ever worked?

Jim Crow was pretty effective, but that's about it.
