I'm the Cowboys GM in a 7-round mock over on the Spawn boards.

I took Sharrif Floyd DT Florida in the 1st. ( I traded up from 18 to 15 to get him).

I'm on the clock now in the 2nd round (pick 56) and looking over my choices. I have to pick in about an hour.

Here's some of the players available:
Johnathan Hankins DT Ohio State
Barrett Jones C Alabama
Travis Frederick C/G Wiscosnin
Larry Warford G Kentucky
Jesse Williams DT Alabama
Phillip Thomas S Fresno State
Kevin Minter LB LSU
Sam Montgomery DE LSU
Quinton Patton WR Louisiana Tech
Terrance Williams WR Baylor
Mike Glennon QB NC State
Ryan Nassib QB Syracuse
Tyler Wilson QB Arkansas

On needs alone I want to decide between Jones, Frederick, and Warford...but the value on Hankins seems too high to pass up.

Do I draft Hankins to team with Floyd and boost the front 7. I can justify it by saying Brent and Ratliff are done. Hatcher is a swing guy, etc.

Okay, sell me on who you think I should take...

I'd go Frederick. Maybe Warford but I agree with Parcells that C is really important and you can get by with other guards.

I took Hankins. Just couldn't pass up that value.

Next pick up is 3rd round, pick 87.

I used our 3rd round pick (80) to jump and get Floyd but I acquired Seattle's 3rd (87) when I traded down in the 2nd.
Seattle wanted Robert Woods and I didn't really love who was available at 47.

I know we will probably miss out on Barrett Jones, Travis Frederick, and Larry Warford in the next 21 picks but again, felt like I couldn't pass up on Hankins there.

Front four of Spencer, Hankins, Floyd, and Ware (plus cap room by releasing Ratliff and Brent now) was too appealing.

Give me some names for third round targets.

I was leaving heavily on warford but you sold me on Hankins. Too much value

That's what I was thinking. Ratliff is old and we could use him in a John Abraham type of role; have Sharif as the 3-tech and Hankins as the 0-tech.

3rd round might be the time to grab our C as theebs pointed out; Schwenke.

I'd feel around and see what the thought is on him, maybe he could slip to you in the 4th or maybe even the 5th.

Warford is still on the board? What pick is it?

last pick in the 2nd round, 62. I'm at 87 and with no 4th rounder, I doubt I can move up much. If Jones, Warford, and Frederick slip another 10 or 12 picks, I may try to move up with a 5th.

Has cowboyjoe come out of his war room this year?

Brian Schwenke will start for the Cowboys this season. He is your man.

Hey, a football post. I see you read my mock thread. Following my lead is a good way to ease your way into football discussions. :thumbsup

I would occasionally post in the Fan Zone. It's when the stupidity was thick (which was often) that I would avoid it. If it's normal conversation (ie, not people letting their emotions take over for logic) then I can enjoy it. :)

I usually post way more in the offseason. Avoiding forums the day of a loss is usually wise
