Kiper was on Mike and Mike, thinks Dallas is the ideal spot for Connor Cook at 34 or Hackenberg, though you can tll he likes Cook more.

Kiper said he had Lynch rated behind Cook.

It has become very fashionable to bash Cook and find flaws in his game and his personality, but this guy can play the position. First off, I was right next to Archie Griffin and Cook at the infamous "Trophy Snub" and I can assure you that it did not feel as bad on the stage as it appeared on TV. When a QB plays as much football as Cook has played over the last three seasons, it is easy to take shots and find flaws. But he understands how to operate a pro-style system and has shown the ability to put his team on his back in big moments and win games. He has made more pro-style throws in his career than any other QB in this draft. Cook is a solid pick and it won't shock me if he is the third QB taken.

32 Paxton Lynch QB

I am a fan of Lynch, but it is very easy and en-vogue to project him higher than Cook even though it is extremely tough to evaluate him due to the spread system he played in. He will have to learn and develop NFL footwork, which should be possible because of his athleticism. I love how the ball comes out of his hand, and his arm strength is more than adequate. Lynch would be well served to sit for a few years in the NFL and learn the game while developing pro-style fundamentals. He has solid potential, and would be best served going to a team with an established starter.

a lot of teams immediately took him off their boards; I guess the Giants were one of them. besides weed, he accepted $ from someone at his school, and then there's the whole stepfather legal fiasco.

Well that's crazy then. Nobody cares about weed anymore (unless it's a serious problem like with Gregory last year) and taking money from a coach makes the school look terrible, not him. Everyone knows Ole Miss didn't suddenly start landing 5-star recruits because of Hugh Freeze's winning personality.

I assumed there were more questions about him that we haven't heard about, and maybe there were.

But think what an incredible 180 they've done since less than a year ago. Then they were so arrogantly confident that they could let Murray go and anyone, even a known dummy like Randle, could run behind this line. Now eight months later they can't even wait until the second round to get a RB; they have to get the best one in the draft to recreate their one good year.

Just shows me how all over the map they are and how there's not really some overriding multi-year plan in place.

I suspect had they had a chance to draft Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon, they would have done so. They were never in position to do that though were they?

After that, none of those RB's were anything close to those two, nor were any of those RB's close to Elliott.

Wonder why they didn't just take Tunsil themselves? That had to be other flags on him other than just a vid of him smoking some pot and taking money from a coach, right? I didn't watch or hear that portion from about picks 6-12 last night.

The story claims its for a pass rusher. We have the 3rd pick and it appears there are several DL to pick from. I'm not sure what positions the Titans need, but I don't understand the urgency to move up two spots unless they know (KNOW) that other teams want the same player they want are going to get Cleveland's pick.

My absolutely nightmare scenario "Dallas has traded up with Cleveland, with the 32nd pick the Cowboys select......Dak Prescott"

There were definitely other issues that people were whispering about.

One was that he was somehow involved with Nkiemdiche (sp) in that fall/thrown out the window thing here in Atlanta

Because Jerry is more concerned with looking clever than being clever. as with Elliott, he's probably locked onto one player he just has to have, even though they're interchangeable at this point

Cowboys will look for defensive help in Day 2 of draft

IRVING, Texas – If the Dallas Cowboys view Ezekiel Elliott as a help to their defense at least in a tangential way then they must find more direct help in the rest of the draft.

That starts Friday with the second round where the Cowboys own the 34th overall pick.

“I wouldn’t say totally, but at the same time I think it’s pretty obvious that we want to help our defense out,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “Jerry [Jones] and Jason [Garrett] both said this running back really helps our defense out if you can control the ball and you can keep the defense off the field and do the things that a great running back can do, kind of like we did two years ago, and that helps your defense. At the same time, we’d all like to improve on our defense … I’m not afraid to say we’re focused on the defensive side of the ball, but it could be at a number of positions.”

The most immediate need remains pass rush. The Cowboys won’t have Randy Gregory for the first four games and are waiting for an announcement on a similar suspension for DeMarcus Lawrence. Among the Cowboys’ pre-draft visitors, the only remaining defensive end is Clemson’s Kevin Dodd. While his teammate, Shaq Lawson, went in the first round, some teams believe Dodd can be better.

He had 12 sacks and 23.5 tackles for loss last season.

Another name to watch is Oklahoma State defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. While he did not visit the Cowboys, he has the productivity. He had 13 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, 19 hurries and forced three fumbles.

That Jones mentioned “other positions” on defense, there are a number of quality defensive tackles available and the team could look at safety and cornerback help as well.

That the Cowboys were willing to jump back into the first round to take Paxton Lynch shows they would like a quarterback, but taking one at No. 34 or even with their third-round selection might be too high of a price.

Had the Cowboys made the deal for Lynch then they would have had the chance to hold his rights through 2020. With a second- or third-round pick they would not have that option since they sign four-year deals.

The Cowboys don’t want to be caught in a situation the Denver Broncos had in Brock Osweiler in which they took him in the second round, saw him play for a short time and then leave as a free agent this offseason to the Houston Texans.

“Obviously it’s a big deal to have five years on a quarterback that’s not going to play for a while,” Stephen Jones said. “And that’s the hard part, too. It’s always hard to take a guy [a quarterback] when you have one. You don’t see it very often … What we’d like at the end of the day is have Tony play five years and never look back. Is that realistic? You just never know, but we’d gotten our hands around [Lynch] enough and thought he’d probably be a perfect guy to sit and watch for 2-3 years.”

Reports say Leon Lett conducted a private workout with Ogbah and really liked him.

Has excellent production for past two seasons and IIRC really had an impressive combine workout.

Yep, I agree. I wouldn't draft Spence because of that and I definitely wouldn't trade up to get him.

It sounds good that apparently he has been clean, but we cant take the risk here IMO, especially not with this pick where it is.

Exactly. David Moore said last night we pretty much had Spence off our boardm but Werder is just as wired in as he is. I can't believe we'd take yet another DE with problems, much less trade up for him.

But that's Jerry for you. I guess Garrett and McClay were kind enough to hand the keys to the franchise back to him.
