Gabe Carimi: Most NFL scouts think I’m the best tackle in the draft

We’ll still have to wait more than six months before we see how Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi looks in the NFL. But we know he can talk a good game.

Carimi said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he considers himself the best offensive tackle in this year’s draft. And he said at today’s Wisconsin Pro Day that when he talked to NFL scouts and coaches about those comments, most of them told him they think he’s the best, too.

“They asked me why I thought that,” Carimi said. “They asked me why, and I repeated myself. And most of them said they agreed.”

Carimi is a first-round pick on the PFT mock draft, but he isn’t the first tackle off the board. Today’s workouts were an opportunity for Carimi, who won the Outland Trophy as the best lineman in the NCAA, to show that he’s the best lineman in the draft.

And as for the possibility that he’s done a little too much talking about himself, Carimi doesn’t see that as a problem.

“I wouldn’t see why you wouldn’t want a confident player,” Carimi said.
