New Tennessee head coach Butch Jones made a big impression at SEC Media Days this week but the new leader of the Volunteers made an even bigger splash on the recruiting trail. After landing three new commitments for their 2014 recruiting class in the last week, the Volunteers moved to the No. 1 spot in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings, vaulting over their hated rivals, the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The 247Sports team rankings are determined using a composite of the four major recruiting services (Rivals.com, Scout, ESPN and 247Sports' own rankings).

Tennessee's big week included commitments from 4-star Georgia safety Cortez McDowell, 4-star Indianapolis wide receiver Dominique Booth and 3-star Tampa offensive lineman Ray Raulerson.

The Vols currently hold commitments from 22 players, the most of any team in the SEC, including 9 players rated 4-stars or better.

Tennessee has too many good things going for it to be a weak SEC team for long.

The conference is brutal, so turning those players in to wins isn't going to be easy. But at least they'll be truly competitive soon.

Jon, being a prick is basically a prerequisite for coaching at the elite major college football programs. Sad but true.

The last time I was this excited about being a Vols fan was when Lane Kiffin came to town and brought us that incredible recruiting class!

Bryce Brown, David Oku, Janzen Jackson, Nu'Keese Richardson, Darren Myles, etc....

Not neccesarily. Les Miles isn't a prick and neither is Texas A&M's coach.

Great set of Berry twins but not the ones I was talking about.

would easily take Saban over either of them, and not think twice about it

Saban is hands down the best coach in college football, and it isn't even close right now

Butch Jones definitely has it rolling. Their recruiting class has been # 1 on rivals for some time. It's more of a sheer numbers game right now that that has them at top of the heap. They have raked in some highly touted prospects but several teams are hovering in the top ten (namely Alabama) who have 8 -10 less signed players. Interesting to see what happens between now and Signing day. How this season plays out may have a huge role in how many of these players actually put pen to paper in Tennessee's favor. Finishing anywhere in the top 5 would be an amazing get for a program trying to return to prominence.

Berry brothers / Evan Berry is the better prospect of the 2 brothers. Neither brother has signed but many believe it's a virtual lock that both will sign especially Evan.

On a side note Bill Bates son Dillon signed earlier this month. Highly recruited LB from Florida.

Vols' recruiting haul rolls on

HOOVER, Ala. — Tennessee added its fourth football commitment in as many days on Sunday, and for the third day in a row, it was a four-star prospect joining the Volunteers' 2014 class.

Norcross (Ga.) High School linebacker Kevin Mouhon continued Tennessee's July recruiting roll when he announced his pledge. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound prospect long favored the Vols and decided to end his recruitment while on campus this weekend. Rivals.com ranks Mouhon as the No. 15 outside linebacker prospect and the No. 21 player in Georgia.

His older brother, Silverberry, plays defensive end at Cincinnati and signed for the Bearcats and Butch Jones in 2011, which gave Kevin a previous connection with Tennessee's first-year coach, and the Vols have one other Norcross product (redshirt freshman receiver Jason Croom) on the roster.

Kevin Mouhon compiled scholarship offers from a number of big-time programs, including Ohio State, Oregon, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Auburn, Notre Dame, Penn State, Miami, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State, among others.

He adds to an impressive linebacker class. The Vols could lose five players at the position and need depth behind Curt Maggitt and A.J. Johnson, the SEC's leading tackler last season as a sophomore who's a candidate to depart for the NFL after this season. Tennessee signed just one linebacker in 2012 (Kenny Bynum) and none last year after early enrollee Corey Vereen showed promise as a defensive end in spring practice.

Of the five linebackers committed in Tennessee's 2014 class, five are rated as four-star prospects by 247sports.com

Dillon Bates (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) and Gavin Bryant (Jackson, Ala.) are top-250 prospects according to 247sports.com. Chris Weatherd, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder from Trinity Valley Community College in Texas, gives the Vols' a junior-college option. Jerome Dews, a two-star prospect from the Washington D.C. area, is a grayshirt candidate.

The Vols, who signed 23 players in last year's class, now have 24 commitments and have added six since Monday during what they've dubbed "Foundation Week."
